EAGLE's Mission:
Increase the involvement of American Indians in all levels of University Life. Undertake a continuous plan to identify areas of need in program development and the recruitment/retention of American Indian students, faculty, administrators and staff. EAGLE also strives to educate the general public on past and present American Indian issues.

American Indian Undergraduate Students are represented by the North American Indian Student Organization (NAISO). NAISO sponsors cultural and social programs and promotes campus-wide awareness of current issues affecting American Indian students. NAISO also provides a social support system for students through linkage with the extended Indian community in the Lansing area. The Annual Pow Wow is open to the public and attracts participants from several states and Canada.

The AANII Program is designed to assist American Indian students with academic and professional development at Michigan State University. AANII seeks to enhance the traditional values of American Indians by providing a nurturing learning environment that is rich in American Indian culture.
AANII will provide students the opportunity to develop emotionally, spiritually, physically and mentally. This cultural program is designed to help American Indian students successfully pursue a Bachelor's degree.
Finally, students will acquire skills to function effectively and contribute in an increasingly, diverse, global community.

AANII will provide:

  • A network of American Indian peers which include MSU falculty, staff and administrators in addition to local American Indian community members serving as mentors.
  • Skill building seminars and workshops designed to promote effective learning strategies.
  • Career/major assessment counseling.
  • Frequent monitoring of academic progress.
  • A list of courses that will focus on the American Indian experiance.
  • The opportunity to live in close proximity to the NAISO cultural room.

AISES Activities

The American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES) is a national, nonprofit organization which nurtures building of community by bridging science and technology with traditional Native values. Through its educational programs, AISES provides opportunities for American Indians and Native Alaskans to pursue studies in science, engineering, business and other academic arenas. The trained professionals then become technologically informed leaders within the Indian community. AISES' ultimate goal is to be a catalyst for the advancement of American Indians and Native Alaskans as they seek to become self-reliant and self-determined members of society.
