Changes of ideas at Le Likes, Postelnicu

We could see the Likes High School on Monday morning at 8 o'clock
exactly when the students started their classes. We were very surprised
when we saw that there was only one entrance for both the teachers
and for the students. This is not customary in Romanian schools.
The Likes is probably the biggest school I have ever seen. In that
high school there was almost 3000 students and it was a private
school. The building has two floors and the architecture is very
modern. Another thing that shocked us, was that smoking in school
is allowed. In fact there was a special place for the students to
smoke. In every break they have hundreds of students who go to that
special spot to smoke.
The students were finished their classes at 15:30 or 16:30 every
day except on the weekend days of course. At 12 o'clock, The Likes
High School had an hour and half break. During that break, the students
could take their lunches to the school cafeteria. This cafeteria
is a very big room with very nice decorations.
In this high school exist optional classes also. Likes High School
has a very big hall with all kind of equipment used in industry.
Here the students could learn better working with equipment with
which they might work with in the future. In the language classes
we had the surprise to find out that the students can learn beside
languages like English, Spanish, Italian or others, Chinese which
is an optional class.
In all 4 days we spent in Quimper at that school we had the opportunity
to assist some classes like history and optional English. Here we
learned that almost 80% of the students participate in the class.
The teachers used others methods that incorporated media equipment,
television sets and video cameras.
The school also has a very beautiful theatre hall. In this room
the students performed all kinds of plays and all the school could
see them. I thought that the students and the teachers from Likes
high school were very kind and friendly.
On Tuesday the 18th of December, before the presentations, we had
the pleasure to listen few traditional Celtic songs sang by some
students. The children were very good in my opinion.
From the students in the meetings we found out some interesting
information. We found out that they have different breaks. They
start their classes at 8 A.M. After 2 hours they have a 20-minute
break and then 2 more hours.
At 12 O'clock they have the big break-an hour and a half. During
this break, they eat. Some students have 2 or 3 hours more after
this long break. They arrive at home at 16:00 or 17:00. For this
reason they don't have as much homework as we have. At the end of
the high school they have an exam just like us.
The Likes High School has many computers connected to the Internet
and a beautiful big library with 2 rooms for sessions. I think that
this school is a model of the future. We all hope that we will have
a school like the Likes High School in Quimper.
