For us "Coastal cities" is the
first Comenius(Socrates) project, that's way our visit at Quimper
was a special event waited for a long time. Monday morning we arrive
very early at the high school, Lionel Poiredeau was waiting us to
tell us about our meeting place for the next 4 days when we will be
in Likes high school.
The team from Italy is arriving too, Antoanela, English teacher from
Lecce high school, Antonio, director adj. of the same high school
and two students: Cristina and Paola. We are visiting the school,
we meet people who are very kind. Their educational system is very
impressioning and interesting because I find it important the atention
on each student education, the conditions offered by the school are
also very good.
The place which impressed us the most was C.D.I.(information and documentation
center), a place where the students could learn by them selves, with
media equipments and a very big number of books and other publications.
Because we would like to have such a place in our school we asked
Lionel to give us some ideas. We made friends very quick and also
all of them find out that we are parteners with Le Likes on a Comenius
project. We met Monique, an Science of the Earth teacher who shows
us the project of ........(fixare a dunelor) with some students and
another collegs of her's.
We think that it is an experiment which we could make in Coastal Cities
project. In our school's visit we met many teacher who are working
at the school magazine and we hope that we could colaborate with them
someday. Some of the most incredibles moments of our trip were the
minutes spent on the lunches in the high school caffeteria, there
we could change ideas better with our host.
We compared our educational system with theirs, the classes and the
number of hours, so we got the conclusion that no educational system
is perfect and changes can be make all the time. The Italiens don't
have the lunch break and the French thing that their programe is too
long. In that time there was the meetings with parents perioud and
in one of the nights the high school was without heat so we smiled
telling them that we have the same problems.
Wensday drinking our coffee at Douarnenez I started to ask Christian
and Albert, two French teachers many things. One of the subjects was:
how can they make the students to read more and if that is a problem
in France too. Of course it is. Albert helps the students at litterature
by concernig their attentions on imagination, Christian was helping
them by making some connections with music, he is a fan of Gerges
Brassens.
He gives students exams for testing their knowledge at litterature.
As we were spending time with them we found out that we were making
a really good team together. Also with Christian I taught at a high
school class with 15 yaers old children. I asked him to do this thing
because I wanted to meet the French students and I wanted to see if
I could manage with a class from another educational system.
Even if I hadn't had time to prepare my self for the class, the hour
came out to be very good because we were able to comunicate very well.
With that ocasion I sow that he was nervious too knowing that a foreign
person is watching the class. After a short while spent in Likes we
got to be friends with all of our parteners.
That thing was oviously in the moment that on Thursday mornin we thougt
of some ideas for our project in the future.
The meeting with Trevor, the English teacher was interesting, he gave
us some very good ideas. He was impressed by the English and informatics
level of our students. The person who was with us most of the time
was Lionel Poiredeau, the coordonator of foreign projects. Some of
his qualities are: his humour, his comunications skils, his culture,
his passion for art and many more.
