Brest harbor
On the fifth day 21th of December we ware in Brest ,city which was a population of 150.000 inhabitants and is situated in the north-vest of France in the department of Finistère which actually means at the end of the earth. The city is located on two opposite banks of the River Penfeld,Brest is an important
harbor it`s also well protected and is even an important military naval base, on our trip in Brest we even got to see a few French war ships. Our host in brest MarieIvone told us a little of the town`s history and how in the second World War American troops used to disembark here and how the city was almost completely destroyed by the germans and so many of the buildings date from around 1948.The only buildings that remain of old Brest are the Castle situated in the vicinity of the harbor and the Tanguy Tower which dates back to
the 16th century and which now houses a museum.During our first day in Brest we had the opportunity to visit the school where our guest was working ,where I realized that all of the French school are very well equipped.
One of Brest`s biggest attractions is Oceanopolis
which is situated in the vicinity of yachting harbor Moulin-Blanc. The park was first opened in 1989 and today represents an important scientific and technical center dedicated to the marine environment.
Here we had the chance to visit on of the four pavilions namely the Tropical pavilion, now we had the chance to see seals, sharks ,numerous species of fish and many others but the interesting thing was that the displays warn`t limited to fish tanks but we also had the chance to see documentaries about the threat the man represents for the environment and the disasters that he can cause but also about poaching.
Another thing that I liked very much was the multimedia room where on about 12 computers people had the chance to see movies that took care of subjects such as wild life ,coral sea reef ,atmosphere phenomenon and other subjects.
But the exhibit that I liked the most was the one where they recreated a real life tropical rain forest with everything mist, jungle noises, humidity everything.
The last thing the I would like to mention is that unlike other parks opened in other countries such as Romania this centre wasn`t constructed for profit but for education ,and I really thing It has reached it`s goal.
