If we could fly with an helicopter above Quimper we could see a
beatiful town around the Sf. Corentin cathedrale along the Odet
river. Quimper has all the qualities to make a very good impression
on you. Having almost 1500 years Quimper is a coast town situatted
along two rivers comunicating with the ocean, Steir and Odet. From
the first moment we sow Quimper as an art and history town because
of its arhitecture, the shops and the large number of culture center.
Who comes in Quimper for the first time usually is visiting the
Sf. Cathedrale, a gothic style construction build between the XIII
th and XIX th century. In the cathedrale square it's the City Hall,
a beatiful and modern building, from here douzens of streets are
spreding to houses, stores or other modern contructions. "La
place au Beurre", Kereon street or "les Gentilhommes"
are famous for their shopes with an original style. The town had
all kind of decorations including the traditional music which was
heard in all of the city. There are few traditional things in Quimper
like:......(faianta), easy to recognise.
In 1690 Jean Baptiste Bosquet was developing an .......(atelier
de faianta). Alfred Beall an painter has painted the... with traditional
signs in yellow and blue collors. The painting is another traditional
custom in Quimper. A painting school was formed by Paul Gaugainin
Pont Aven at the end of the XIX th century. Loving the quiet and
the landscapes of this region and with the hospitility of two women
Julia Guillou aand Marie Jeanne Gloannec, Gaugain, Paul Serusier
and Emile Bernard fromed this school which brought a lot of faim
to Quimper.
One of Gaugain famous picture is "Yellow Jesus"??? insired
by the "Wood Jesus"?? from Trenade chapell. The trading
and the art are connected, very often you could see painted on the
buildings pictures representing "The Bretagne girl's dans",
a famous painting of Gaugain. Another artistical symbol of Bretagne
is the music.
We could see in "Place au Beurre" the Keltia Musique store
which remained us of the music from Quimper streets.Names like Alain
Stivell, Dan Ar Braz, Tri Yann Gilles Servat have became miths of
folk and rock music. Christian , the French teacher from Quimper
is a fan of that kind of music and he gave us a CD with Alain Stivell
and Dan AR Braz with a group from Caransebes.
We heard Gilles Servat's music at the Peron family and we loved
his songs. Due to the persons mentioned above a lot of music groups
are singing nowadays in bars, restaurants or differnt clubs. We
had the opportunity to listen to Trevor's Band in a very special
place, eating and drinking traditional food and drinks. We felt
very good with our host thanks to their hospitility.
