Remarks of Secretary Paige, Cleveland, OH
FOR RELEASE:
July 1, 2002
Thank you. It is great to be here in Clevelandground zero for freedom of choice in public schools.
Every day in many ways, I am reminded what an honor it is to serve this President.
In the crisis-filled days and months since September 11th, he has been an unyielding force for freedom.
Yet even standing toe to toe with terrorism, President Bush has never once lost his laser-beam focus on the things that matter back here at home.
As Education Secretary, I have seen his steely resolve... and I have seen his dogged determination to change the way we educate our children, so every child learns and no child is left behind.
People I meet tell me that the reforms of No Child Left Behind are more than a law; it's a revolution. A profound moment of change.
And years from now, people are going to look back on the compassionate vision of this President and say, That was the tipping point.
That's when they raised the bar and student achievement began to soar.
That's when leadership triumphed over politics and no child was left behind.
That's when we created great schools worthy of a great nation.
That's when all Americansno matter the color of their skin or the accent of their speechfinally got a fair shot at achieving their dreams.
Please welcome the President of the United States.
