The Learning Resources Center invites you to participate in seminars and workshops for fall semester 2002. You will have the opportunity to:

Math Study Groups for MTH 103, 1825. Individual sessions start Tuesday September 3 and Thursday September 5. All sessions meet from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in Room 204 Bessey.

College Survival Skills Series - Time Management Workshop. Sessions begin September 3 from 5:15 to 6:30 p.m., likely held in the Conference Room of 202C Bessey.

Statistics 200 study groups are starting Thursday September 5 from 3:00 p.m. to 3:50 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. They will also meet Monday September 9 1:50 p.m. until 2:40 p.m. All sessions will meet in 204 Bessey. Be aware study groups meet weekly all term long, but you may attend any session convenient for you! Contact the LRC for information and to sign up. 355.2363

Note Taking Workshop . Meets from 5:15 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday September 10. Participants will learn strategies for recording lecture information in several different formats.

General Reading Skills Workshop . Meets from 5:15 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday September 17. Participants will learn several strategies for making more effective use of textbooks as well as ways of increasing recall of textual material.

Learning in the Social Sciences Seminar. Participants will learn study strategies specifically focused on the unique challenges of topics related to Social Science. Reading, note taking, studying, and test taking skills will be explored. Seminar meets weekly from 5:15 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. starting Monday September 23 , going until Monday October 14.

Exam Preparation. Meets from 5:15 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. Tuesday September 24. Participants will learn study strategies specifically focused effective review techniques, using notes to study and the importance of study groups.

Test Taking Workshop (Multiple Choice). Meets from 5:15 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday October 1. Participants will learn effective strategies for unpacking multiple choice questions and determining the best strategy for reducing the number of choices. Workshop repeats on Monday, October 7 from 3:45 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.

GRE Preparation Seminar
. Participants will take actual GRE Verbal, Quantitative, and Written tests and develop a test preparation plan. A Pre and Post test will be given on the first and last meetings. Seminar meets from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. on the following days:

Test Taking Workshop (Essay) . Meets from 5:15 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday October 8. Participants will learn effective strategies for writing clear, well-organized responses to all types of essay questions in timed situations.

Time Management Workshop . October 14 from 3:45 to 5:00 p.m. Participants will learn strategies for more effectively organizing time resources .

College Reading Strategies Workshop. Meets Sunday October 20 from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. in 204 Bessey. Participants will learn effective reading strategies for dealing with complex, unfamiliar texts, as well as ways to increase vocabulary.

Learning in the Sciences Seminar . Participants will learn study strategies specifically focused on the unique challenges of topics related to Natural Science. Reading, note taking, studying and test taking skills will be explored. Seminar meets weekly from 2:45 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Tuesdays: October 22 and 29 through November 5 and 12.

RESCHEDULED! Exam Preparation . Meets from 3:45 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Monday November 11. Participants will learn study strategies specifically focused effective review techniques, using notes to study and the importance of study groups.

Preparing for Finals. Participants will learn effective strategies for dealing with comprehensive exams of all types. Workshops will be held in Bessey 204 on the following dates and times:
November 19 4:10-5:30 p.m.
November 20 7:00-8:30 p.m. and
November 21 4:10-5:30 p.m.
