The Michigan State University (MSU) College of Human Medicine (CHM) Health Careers Opportunity Program (HCOP) established the Health Professions Achievement Pathway (HPAP) Alliance that forms a partnership between the MSU College of Human Medicine and the MSU Colleges of Nursing and Veterinary Medicine, Lansing Community College, the Lansing School District, undergraduate programs at Michigan State University, and other community partners to create a more competitive minority health professions pool for mid-Michigan.

The pathway begins with activities at the middle school level and continue through health professions school. The activities involve parents and appropriate community organizations and agencies. Students participating in the Alliance activities are exposed to many academic and enrichment activities. This exposure will develop their awareness, increase their motivation through career exploration, strengthen their readiness and preparedness to pursue a pre-health professions curriculum. As a result they will be competitive candidates for admission to the MSU College of Human Medicine and other health professions schools involved in the Alliance.

The Alliance pathway includes the ABLE Program, a post-baccalaureate program that offers ten (10) students guaranteed admission to the College of Human Medicine upon successful completion.
