Information on Database Resources ....

There are several databases that you will find useful in locating journal article literature on the topic of minority health. Databases such as Medline, the Cummulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL) and HealthSTAR may be searched in order to find journal articles relating to the health of minorities. Additional databases may also be useful for topics in education, psychology, sociology, social work, etc. The MSU Libraries has a list of the databases it offers in the health sciences, as well as a list of databases in other subject areas that may also prove useful in your research.

For assistance with these databases or any other questions you may have, consult a Librarian.

Primarily you will be using one of the following databases:
MEDLINE is produced by the National Library of Medicine and includes citations from approximately 3800 journals. The coverage is from 1966 to the present. It is particularly useful for clinical medicine and biomedical research.
CINAHL stands for the Cumulated Index of Nursing and Allied Health Literature. The primary focus is clinical and practical applications from nursing and allied health publications.
HEALTHSTAR is from the National Library of Medicine and indexes the hospital and health administration/health policy journals. It is particularly good for looking at managed care issues and similar topics.
PsychInfo contains the summaries of over 1300 journals, of books, of dessertaions and technical reports in psychology and related fields, in over 30 languages from 50 countries.

All of these databases are available through MSU libraries Electronic Reseources. Information Retrieval Software. You can obtain the software for the Electronic Reference Library particular to your operating system (WinSPIRS for a Windows interface or MacSPIRS for the Macintosh). You may also search through a Web interface (WebSPIRS).
