The Leaders Achieving Notable
Education, LANE, Premedical Society is sponsored by the Michigan State
University College of Human Medicine, CHM, through the Center of Excellence
in Minority Medical Education and Health (COE). The Society is an enrichment
program that recognizes students' early academic achievement and dedication
to careers in medicine. LANE strives to create a supportive environment
that encourages trust and confidence among its members, mentors and
program facilitators. It is also hoped that lasting relationships with
CHM students, faculty and alumni will be fostered through LANE.
LANE Objectives:
To identify high-achieving MSU pre-medical students from underrepresented
groups in medicine who have a strong interest in becoming physicians,
to participate in the College of Human Medicine LANE Premedical Society.
To promote
the LANE Premedical Society members' potential to be successful undergraduate
students through programming that emphasizes decision-making, priority-setting,
problem-solving, conflict resolution, learning strategy adaptation and
team-building.
To stimulate
the LANE Premedical Society members' interest and motivation for a career
in medicine through programming presented in a medical context.
To develop
the LANE Premedical Society members to be uniquely qualified for the
rigors of medical school because of their highly developed academic
skills, leadership skills, service experiences, and professional behavioral
standards.
To enroll
the LANE Premedical Society members at the College of Human Medicine
because they have successfully completed the program's expectations,
and fit the mission of the College of Human Medicine.
