Background Information
Wheeling Creek is a tributary of the Ohio River and drains a portion of the northern panhandle of West Virginia and the southwestern area of Pennsylvania. The U.S. Geological Survey provides the information for topographic maps as digital files called Digital Line Graphs and Digital Elevation Models. These can be superimposed on each other to produce a digitally generated scene of an area using a Geographic Information System. The scene to the left was produced to help identify the geomorphological structure of the Wheeling Creek watershed. Left: Wheeling Creek streams draped over elevation.
