Native Indian Health Sites

* The Native American Breast Cancer Survivors' Network (The Network) site provides information on how to improve survival from breast cancer and the quality of life after diagnosis for Native American/First Nations breast cancer patients and their loved ones.

The project addresses various support issues for those (survivor/thrivers, family, and friends) dealing with breast cancer and to learn more about how cancer is affecting our Native communities (e.g., the patterns of disease and patterns of care experienced by Native American cancer patients.

The Indian Health Service

The Indian Health Service (I H S) is an agency within the U S Dept. of Health and Human Services and is responsible for providing federal health services to American Indians and Alaska Natives. The provision of health services to members of federally recognized tribes grew out of the special government to government relationship between the federal government and Indian tribes. This relationship, established in 1787, is based on Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution, and has been given form and substance by numerous treaties, laws, Supreme Court decisions, and Executive Orders.

The mission of SACNAS is to encourage Chicano/Latino and Native American students to pursue graduate education and obtain the advanced degrees necessary for research careers and science teaching professions at all levels.
