2002 LANE Induction

2002 inductees

Twelf new members were admitted into the LANE Society on Sunday January 13, 2002. They are LaTonyia Bowman, Bridgas Brown, Candace Gates, Marissa Gonzalez, and Nicole Hidlago. Others are Todd McHarron, Tony McHarron, Erin Peters, Ariel Robbins, Kristin Robinson, Rodel Wade and Crystal Ybarra.

Following the annual ritual, Karen P. Williams, Ph.D., Assistant Professor for Obstetrics and Gynecology, and also the COE coordinator, guided the occasion through as the mistress of ceremony. One of last year's inductees, Kasandra Scales, made a brief welcome speech.

Also present was Wanda D. Lipscomb, CHM Assistant Dean for Student Affairs and Services and the COE Director. She used her inaugural speech to explain what the occasion was for and the expectations of being a LANE member (see details in Director's speech). Jane Turner, M.D., CHM Assistant Dean for Pre-clinical Curriculum, in her remarks, harped on the demands of the profession and the need to be prepared adequately for it.

In the induction ceremony proper, inspirational passages were read out from the Book of Knowledge, by Glynda Moorer, M.D., the MSU Medical Director at Olin Health Center. Dorothy Reed, Director of Charles Drew Laboratory at College of Natural Science, read the Beacon of Hope. Angel Lake, M.D., read the Symbol of Service. Dr. Lake was in the CHM graduating class of 2001 and currently a Resident of Internal Medicine at Sparrow Health Systems in Lansing.
