The sky

The basic conception of the man and the simplest one, concerning the sky, is that “its substance and its limit is situated where it encounters the Earth”, it is “laid down at God’s feet”. Still, the realists think that the sky consists of two parts that combine themselves fact that allows it to ‘open’; and the Milky Way shows exactly the place where it’s supposed to combine.

In the sky, every night, there are services held by The Holy Saints; “when Angels rattle in the sky the cocks hear and sing”. The Christian legend, unlike the mythical legend, said that the cock has a dignified and grand role. Instead of Alectryon (Electron), turned into a cock, as a punishment because he hadn’t watched well enough Ares’s (Mars) affair with Aphrodity (Venera), we have the cock as the announcer of the divine service.

In other people’s opinion there is the strong idea that there is more than one sky, more exactly nine skies and that in the ninth one there lives God with His Angels. They go further, thinking that each sky has its own Earth, each one lit by another sun, these skies standing on their own Earth.

Besides the moon, which lights the firmament, there are some little candles named Stars. The angels use them every night to light the Earth, keeping them turned on until morning comes on these stars. Every person has his own star like a candle, the same way that every Christian has a candle at his icon during his life or at his head, after he dies.

To sum up all these ideas every one should have his own candle in the sky, a Star, which glitters as long the soul glitters in the body; after death that star is turning off, lost in the sky, just like the soul.

Although people are thinking of some big stones, there are some other falling stars, bigger, rounder and sometimes longer, which are entering people’s houses, falling on the Earth or maybe on the people. These are the “dragons” or the “flyers”, walking in the night for beating or killing the people on their way.

Another idea is that the falling stars are magic and, this way, girls hit by them, can dream their lover.

Closing this concept about the sky and the stars, we have to add that there are two more beliefs about the stars: The Sky is standing on four poles, which are, in fact, four stars and one of those poles is in Scorpia constellation, star named Antares. Besides this, we mention the others three regal stars Aldebaran, Regulus and Fomalhault. Their duty is to take care of the sky; for us they are the supporters of the sky.

In the ancient times, the Sky was worshipped under two faces:the starlit Sky, the night Sky, Uranos; and the bright Sky, Zevs or Joe.The Romanian people considered the Sky to be the holy place of God; the idea is that Anaxagorafrom Clazomene said that the Sky is made of stone; Amaximandru, Anaximene and Eudox of Cnid thought that the Sky was made of solid material, although they don’t specify the name of the material. Empedocle thought that the Sky was formed from the air that the fire has made it like the glass, transforming it into cristal, and the stars were some fires emerging from the Earth.

Aristotel is imagining many cristal Skies so that the light can pass through them, belonging to some different spheres, but all conccentric, the Earth being in their common centre.

There are many conceptions about the Sky, each man exposing his point of view, even if it’s correct or not. The Sky remains a mystery for the people, leaving in their mind the seed of desire for knowledge.
