Horticulture and water

Horticulture came into existence near the cities. The citizens needed food and the horticulturists took care for that.

Pollination

Pollination is needed to form fruits. In Holland they use bees and humblebees for the pollination from tomatoes, paprika and aubergines.

Safety and quantity

Because of the greenhouses, the horticulturists are able to produce tasty and safe food. Holland is a frontrunner at this view. The Dutch vegetables are systematically checked for safety. There are strict norms according to the vegetables.

Environment

The walls of glass keep most of the bad animals outside and they also keep the good animals inside.  Despite of the walls, there can be different animals in a greenhouse, which are no good for the planting, animals such as ladybugs and other vermin. A lot of Dutch growers use biological control. Chemical control is only used when vermin can’t be solved by biological control.

Water

In the greenhouses, they’re using a lot of water. Growers use rainwater and they collect it in water-basins. In the water are nutrients, and that is for the growing-process for the plant. Water is also used for the cooling down in the greenhouse, because otherwise it will get too hot in there.

Cleaning water

The rain water must me cleaned before giving it to the plants. It will be cleaned by UV-lights.

Water is also used for spraying over the planting to avoid diseases.

The superfluous water will be captured and re-used. All the processes in the greenhouses are as good for the environment as possible.
