FLOWER AUCTION HONSELERSDIJK

On Thursday, we were by the Flower auction Honselersdijk. They collect the flowers and plants that are delivered by the growers graded, and pack them according to standard instructions. The flowers are stored in the cool store `Aircofleur ` .

The morning after this, they can be buyed in an auction.

The `auction clock `is the most important thing the buyer can see there how much the price at which moment is, and stop it with a button. The buyer who pushes his button at first, gets the plants. From Honselersdijk, the plants are delivered into many different countries, like ermany with the highest Marketshare (34,6%).

Water plays an important part in this company. The flowers have to be

stored, but they shell rest fresh. So they have to work with water.

SHIPHOL

In the midday, we were at schiphol. Schiphol is an important AirportyCity.

It is the biggest Airport in Holland and the fourth biggest in Europe. It was build in 1919, and is very important for the economy. In 2002 there were 40,7 million passengers, and 401.400 flights.

In the Airport you can find companies, like for example Cargo.

Amsterdam

The city of Amsterdam has more canals then Venetia. And the are more bridges

the in Paris.

The first people settle there round 1200. They think it was a good fishing place. And they can hold their boat there. In the 15th century it became a pretty important tradecenter. But the real highlight was in the 16th century when Amsterdam became the most prosperous city of Europe.

The canals also had an other function for centuries; it was also an open sewer. Every one put their tress into the canals. Nowadays the canals are pretty clean. That’s because every night Amsterdam cleans their canals. They refresh the water.

The ships don’t bring their products to the centre of Amsterdam anymore. They go now to the other harbour. But there is still a lot of water traffic. The most traffic is because of the 70 touring ships, which are in Amsterdam. In one year about 3 million people got a cruise in the canals of Amsterdam. One ‘grazy’Amsterdammer had count the canals a few years ago. He counts 160 with a total length of 75,5 km.

There are more functions for the water now. A lot of people, 2400, live in boathouses. They like it because it’s very different than a normal house and the can feel free. But the most important reason is that there was too less cheap space to live in normal houses. The people can get a cheap boat, because some shippers buy a bigger boat and the sell the old boat for less money. Every boathouse is different, so it’s nice to see the boats because every boat is different.

In the winter when it is very cold. Every one is ice skating on the canals.
