Greenhouse

We’ve been in a greenhouse in Honselersdijk, it produces roses. The greenhouse is very modern. It was a greenhouse from 6000m2, what isn’t very big. At every 1 m.2 there standing seven roseplants. So in total there are ,6000x7, 42000 roses. Nine employees are working in the greenhouse and they showed us what they have to do. They cut the roses twice a day, in the morning and in the afternoon. In the greenhouse it’s about 25-30 degrees. The sun warms the greenhouse on the day, but in the night the’re are heating lamps. Because of that the roses grow faster. The temperature in the greenhouse is automatically ranged by a computer, if the temperature is too high the windows automatically open. The computer also recognise the quantity of water in the greenhouse and if there too much water the windows open, so the water can go out.

The beach of Scheveningen

In the summer there are a lot of tourists, they all went to the beach.

Because Holland lays below sea level, we need good protection against the sea. We’ve got all sorts of protection against the sea, for example: dikes.

We’ve got a lot of dikes in Nederland and they keep the land dry. The last big overflow was in 1953.

Amsterdam

Amsterdam was, and still is, an important trade city. In the 17th century they trade all kinds of products from all over the world. A lot of ships came back in Amsterdam to bring their products. They put the products on little boats and then they sailed into the canals of Amsterdam, so they can bring the products everywhere.

The canals are still important for Amsterdam, because they bring in a lot of money with the tour boats. There are a lot of canal boat companies, which can let you see a lot of Amsterdam. In the boat you hear somebody talking about the city, so you get a lot of information of the city.

The shipping museum

The VOC was a big company, which was sailing all over the world for trading. They transport a lot of products, but not only products, also slaves. The VOC had a lot of establishments, an example of it is Indonesia. In the museum there were a lot of paintings and miniature ships. The miniature ships were built afterwards, because in that time they didn’t built miniature, but they make ships all by themselves(in their heads). At the paintings you saw always ships or important people, like captains.

At the outside, next to the museum, there is a big ship. It’s called the Amsterdammer.

ISW-Naaldwijk

This week we done a lot of things that connects with the theme ‘water’. We went on a boat trip through Amsterdam en we were at the Scheepvaartsmuseum. At school we use a lot of water, for drinking, the toilet etc.
