Rotterdam is worlds largest port, it’s the center for the transfer and shipment of goods, transportation (by river, road and train) import, export, distribution, logistics, trade and industry. In 2003 Rotterdam handled 328 million tons of goods. So it’s clear that water is very important for the harbour of Rotterdam and also for the whole economic of the Netherlands. The harbour is very important for Germany because a lot of products who arrive at Rotterdam are send to Germany. In the harbour you find all kinds of companies for transport, shipping and for distribution.

The services of the Seabrex company are:

• terminal handling
• advanced warehouse management systems
• the right equipment in the right quantity to ensure safe and smooth handling of your fruit
• knowledge of receiving markets in
Europe to ensure timely delivery to the various final destinations
• expertise on customs formalities
• door-to-door transport to any European destination including container trucking
• dedicated staff with many decades of experience and know-how

Here you also see that water is also very important for companies like Seabrex and ECT are. ECT is the largest and most customer focussed container terminal operator in Europe, handling almost three-quarters of all containers at the port of Rotterdam. All year round, twenty-four hours a day, ECT operates the Delta Terminal on Rotterdam’s Maasvlakte along the North Sea and the Home Terminal in the Eemhaven area, near the city center. Both terminals are under all conditions easily accessible from sea.

The Maeslant Barrier is a protection barrier against the threat of water. So water was in some early years in the Netherlands a danger for the people who lived near the sea. It’s is very big and it has costs a lot of money for the Dutch government.  It’s is situated at the New waterway and that is in the city of Hoek van Holland.

Another thing which is very important in the region of the Westland is the Flower Auction situated in Honselersdijk. It’s is a very big company who are specialised in the trading of Flowers. The Flower Auction is one of the biggest trading markets in the Netherlands. Here water is also very important because without water the flowers can’t grew and so the Flower Auction wouldn’t even resist !!!!!!

Amsterdam is also a very important city in the Netherlands. In the 17th century worlds first harbour wasn’t the harbour of Rotterdam but the harbour of Amsterdam, because Amsterdam was situated at the ‘Zuiderzee’.  The canals are a good thing of water to earn a lot of money, in the 17th century as harbour and now for the tourists who can make a boat trip on the canals.

Now when we are talking about history the V.O.C. is also a very well known organisation from the past in the Netherlands. The V.O.C. is a trading organisation between the Netherlands and some Eastern companies like Indonesia, Japan and China.  In Amsterdam we saw a very big ship of the V.O.C, and there was a guide who told us a lot of thing about the V.O.C.

So here you can see that water also played a very important thing in the early years of the Netherlands.

So now we have come to the end of this report and we think that it is clear that Water is such an important thing for the Netherlands, Germany, Europe and the whole world.
