Facts about the horticulture in Holland

 

The Netherlands doesn’t export more than they did in the past. That’s crazy because the marked has grown. In 2004 The Netherlands export to America was worth 170 million dollar. The Netherlands is the most important exporter of bulbs all over the world. Holland takes care of 90% of the bulb export in the world.

 

The value of the export of flowers was in 2004 4,9 milliard euro. The export of vegetables and fruit to Germany has grown the last year with 6% from 25,4 to 26,8 million kg.

Holland has trade in 2004 for 12,3 milliard euro to horticulture products.

 

The number of greenhouses has become smaller but the companies that stayed become bigger. The surface of the indoor-horticulture is the same as a couple years ago. At this moment the total surface of indoor-horticulture is 0.25% of the Netherlands. The total surface of horticulture in Holland is 4%.

 

The most important export countries for Holland are: Germany, England and France. That aren’t the only countries where Holland export to, in fact Dutch flowers are being exported to 120 countries all over the world.

 

Circa 60% of the world trade in cut flowers and 40% of the trade in indoor plant is from the Netherlands.   

 

Holland is the biggest exporter of horticulture products.

 

Directly and non-directly there are working 150.000 people in the horticulture in Holland.

 

A positive fact about the horticulture is that the taxpayer doesn’t have to pay for the horticulture, because it doesn’t need a lot of allowance.

 

In the province Zuid-Holland you’ll find the most horticulture: 5.675 hectare.
