The Summer School for High School Journalists – Eforie Sud, 2 – 12 August 1999, is organized by the Center for Independent Journalism in Bucharest together with "Carmen Sylva" High School in Eforie Sud.

During a 10-day course, more than 20 editors of school magazines learned basic journalistic techniques as well as journalistic l]anguage pertaining to print media and radio journalism. The course also included background information on media ethics and newsroom management.

The students came from Bucharest, Constanta, Eforie Nord and Eforie Sud. Among them eight roma students selected by Rromani CRISS, a Rroma NGO based in Bucharest.

Iaromira Popovici, editor with the cultural weekly ‘Dilema’ and Eugen Istodor, editor with ‘Academia Catavencu’ were the trainers for the print media course, while Ovidiu Constantinescu, a journalist with an impressive background as a producer with the BBC World Service in London, was the trainer for the radio journalism course. (He is currently working for ‘Curentul’ Media Group).

The program was financed by EU through its PHARE for Democracy Program, the Department for the Protection of National Minorities of the Romanian Government, and the Bucharest Branch of the Youth and Sports Ministry.
